2NE1 Ultimate Fan Guide

Every KPOP fan knows who 2NE1 is. They are just the biggest female KPOP group who walked on the face of the Earth. They have managed to rise to fame and become influential, bringing people to discovering KPOP.

2NE1 was a South Korean girl group that was made up of four members: Bom, CL, Dara, and Minzy. The group first appeared on a promotional single for LG Electronics entitled “Lollipop” where they joined their label mate, Big Bang. The group then instantly shot to fame with the release of their mini albums and full albums.

The group also had a very successful career in Japan. They released Japanese versions of their albums. They also visited several countries and cities as part of their world tours. In total, they have sold 66.5 million records and The New York Times named their performance at the Prudential Center in New Jersey as one of the “Best Concerts of 2012”.

The group has released a lot of songs that are really good. A few of my personal favorites are “Ugly”, “Do You Love Me?”, and “Falling In Love”. Generally, 2NE1 has their own music style. When a song is played, you can immediately identify it as their song. I think they are more of a combination of EDM, hip-hop, and pop.

However, the group experienced some downtime when Bom was caught up in a scandal and Minzy decided to take a long-term hiatus. Ultimately, Minzy left the group in April 2016. In November of the same year, the group officially disbanded. CL and Dara remained in YG Entertainment but Bom did not renew her contract. As a parting gift to their fans, they released their final single “Good Bye” on January 21, 2017.

Although there is no news that the group will be reuniting in the near future, fans are still hoping that they will one day be able to work together again. For now, fans will just have to look back on the good memories that they shared with the group.

Name: Lee Chaerin

Birthday: February 26, 1991

Position: Leader, Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Lead Vocalist, Face of the Group

Before joining YG, CL was a trainee under JYP. I guess we have to be thankful for her decision to make a move because we wouldn’t have the “baddest female” if she did not make that decision. CL is undoubtedly the most successful member of the group. Besides 2NE1, she has also successfully debuted as a solo artist in Korea. Furthermore, she had her US debut in October 2014. Since then, she has been focusing on her solo activities in the US and has successfully launched her solo US tour.

Name: Park Bom

Birthday: March 24, 1984

Position: Main Vocalist

Bom’s vocals are one of a kind. She’s the type of singer who is recognizable even with the first word she sings. Bom has always been controversial. People have mixed thoughts about her life choices. She’s very particular with her weight so she went on a “lettuce diet” to lose weight and it did not sit well with some of the fans. Fans were worried about her health. Then, she was caught up in a drug scandal when the Korean police have found a package sent to her containing 80 amphetamine tablets. She went on an indefinite hiatus when this broke out and investigation was ongoing. The public also did not take this news well and some said that she was abusing her celebrity status to gain access to the restricted drug. But, amidst all these issues, Bom has the largest fanbase among the members of 2NE1. Personally, I like her. She’s actually my bias and this was after seeing her in a show called “Roommate” where she lived together with other celebrities in a huge house. She has a 4D personality and her weird and unique way of thinking is part of the things that I like about her. She may be shy and mysterious but that’s just her and people should just learn to love that.

Name: Park Sandara

Birthday: November 12, 1984

Position: Vocalist, Sub Rapper, Visual

Prior to joining 2NE1, Dara already had a steady career in the Philippines as a celebrity. She joined a talent survival show for a particular channel in the Philippines. She was sensational because of her foreign roots and her dedication in acting even though she still has difficulties in speaking the Filipino language. She placed second during the finale of the show but successfully debuted as an actress/singer after. She actually released an album in the Philippines that became “Platinum” for selling more than 60,000 copies in just six months! In 2007, she joined YG after having been discovered on a documentary. She then moved to South Korea to become a full-time trainee, this put her Philippine career on hold. She would then become a member of 2NE1 and again, she became sensational in her home country.

Name: Gong Minji

Birthday: January 18, 1994

Position: Main Dancer, Lead Vocalist, Lead Rapper, Maknae

Minzy is a really good dancer. Before being part of 2NE1, she won several awards from different dance competitions. She was scouted by YG after they saw a dance video clip of her on the internet. She trained for 5 years before being part of 2NE1. She went on a long-term hiatus because of personal reasons. However, she ultimately left the group and YG announced her departure on April 5 with the statement, “We are sorry to inform the many 2NE1 fans who’ve waited so long. We are making an official announcement that 2NE1’s maknaeMinzy will no longer be a part of 2NE1.” This has saddened a lot of fans. But, a few months after, she came back to the spotlight and made her solo debut with “NINANO”, a song that showcases her amazing dance skills. She may not be that active now but fans are waiting patiently for her solo career to bloom just like everyone else in 2NE1.
