INFINITE Ultimate Fan Guide

In KPOP, there is an urban legend called “The 7-Year Curse”. It is said that idol groups will experience something troublesome during their seventh year in the industry. Typically, most groups disband after seven years. However, there are those who make it through this curse.

One of them is my beloved group: Infinite. You see, as an international fan, we may listen to many groups all at once but there is always that one group we always go back to. No matter how hard we scream for other groups, our hearts will always belong to that one group we support all the way. We make sure that we attend their concerts or fanmeetings whenever they are close to where we are. We make sure that we buy the albums right when it is released to secure the pre-order benefits. That group for me is Infinite.

I don’t really know why but out of all the groups that I followed, Infinite just struck me the most. It could be because of the adorable things that the group did during their promotions. We’ll look into this later on but before that, let’s have a general overview who each of the members is.

MEMBERS’ PROFILES

Sunggyu

Name: Kim Sunggyu

Birthday: April 28, 1989

Position: Leader, Main Vocalist

Sunggyu is essentially the leader of the group because he is the eldest. However, the members playfully bully him. Even in variety shows, the MCs would often question Sunggyu’s abilities to lead a group. Of course, these are all jokes. Infinite would not be active until now if not for the leadership of this hamster. Sunggyu has also successfully made solo releases and quite frankly, I personally loved his 2nd solo album with the song “Kontrol”.

Dongwoo

Name: Jang Dongwoo

Birthday: November 22, 1990

Position: Main Rapper, Main Dancer, Vocalist

Not many fans know this but Dongwoo was actually a trainee under JYP before moving to Woollim. An interesting fact about Dongwoo is that he is a very deep sleeper. He does not wake up easily and you have to shake him vigorously for him to wake up. This is why he and L are ideal roommates.

Woohyun

Name: Nam Woohyun

Birthday: February 8, 1991

Position: Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Temporary Leader

Now that Sunggyu is serving his mandatory military enlistment, Woohyun is appointed as the temporary leader of the group. Woohyun is the other half of a duo unit called “Toheart” with SHINee’s Key. And to be honest, I am still hoping that they decide to come together and release another song. His comeback single “If Only You Are Fine” is my favorite solo ballad song so far.

Sungyeol

Name: Lee Sungyeol

Birthday: August 27, 1991

Position: Vocalist, Lead Rapper

If you’re a new generation fan, you might get a little confused as Sungyeol has a very close resemblance to Golden Child’s leader, Daeyeol. Actually, Daeyeol is Sungyeol’s younger brother! They are both idols and they are both under the same company! Sungyeol’s most famous nickname is “choding”, which is the Korean term for those who act like they are elementary school kids. This is because of his playfulness and humorous antics.

L

Name: Kim Myungsoo

Birthday: March 13, 1992

Position: Vocalist, Visual, Face of the Group

L is the group’s official visual. I mean, why wouldn’t he be the one? He was picked as the most handsome member by the rest of the members. His beauty has also captured not just the hearts of women, but of men as well. He said that he personally does not like Sungyeol that much but to satisfy their fans, they do a lot of fanservice together.

Sungjong

Name: Lee Sungjong

Birthday: September 3, 1993

Position: Vocalist, Maknae

Compared to his hyungs, Sungjong does not really have that many solo appearances. One time, he did appear on a drama and this one scene became so sensational that it became is nickname until now. Sungjong is also known to be the doppelganger of the famous actress, Song HyeKyo.

INFINITE Things Only Inspirits Understand

Sungjong’s Lemon Candy

I’ve mentioned that Sungjong appeared in a drama just when the group was still starting out. The scene that made him famous was with the child star and now a famous actress, Kim Yoojung. His famous line went like, “When you have a lot of thoughts, have a lemon candy!” And, it would go down as Sungjong’smost cringe-worthy line. He never trained to act so it is just understandable that his acting during this appearance was not the best one. Since then, the group would always tease him about this.

L and Myungsoo

Like I’ve said, L is the visual of Infinite for a reason. It’s not just his looks. It’s also the image that he portrays when he’s onstage. He gives off a cold and mysterious aura. This is why he is my bias. I like guys who have this “cold city guy” vibe. Because of this, he played many roles in dramas that fit his image. Even in Infinite’s MVs, he almost always plays the guy who got his heart broken.

But, that’s just really his alter-ego. L, in real life, is Myungsoo. He’s just an ordinary clumsy guy who has a 4D personality who loves to wear black clothing and seldom takes a bath. Yep, that’s the same guy who makes hearts flutter during stage performance. This attitude of him not being afraid of showing another side of him added to why I like him a lot.

Woohyun’s Hearts

Finger hearts are everywhere. Many fans say that it originated from Korea. While that may be true, one of the strongest proponents of hearts is Woohyun. As fan service, Woohyun would throw out hearts, be it big ones or finger hearts. He may not be the originator of these gestures but they got popular because of him. He would even come up with different versions.

Difficulty in Choosing a Favorite Song

I think this also goes out to all those who are fans of other groups. When you love the group so much, it is often difficult to choose one favorite song because to you, every song is special. Infinite has released a lot of songs since 2010 and as a fan, I love them all! But, if I have to choose three songs to suggest to new fans to get a taste of who Infinite is, I’d choose “Be Mine”, “Between Me and You”, and “Why Me”.

With Sunggyu’s enlistment, the other members will soon be enlisting too. This means that Inspirits like me won’t be seeing a lot from them in the next few years. But, one thing is for sure: I will always be waiting for them and no matter what happens, they will always have my support all the way.
